Honor Freeman

NAG Collection Artist

Honor Freeman is a ceramic artist based on Ngarrindjeri land in South Australia. Her practice dwells on ideas of nostalgia, the everyday, the immaterial and the unnoticed đŸ€”. Her exploration of these ideas comes in the form of expertly crafted porcelain objects, conveying a melancholy fragility and prompting reconsideration of the quotidian 🏠. Freeman is one of the foremost contemporary ceramic artists practicing today, and her work is held in collections in the NGV, AGSA, and Washington DC’s National Museum of Women in the Arts đŸ’Ș.

What emerging artist Grace McMahon had to say:

“HONOR FREEMAN’S ‘ADDING GLAMOUR TO THE SIMPLEST SNACKS’ TAKES ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD, WHEN MY GRANDPARENTS WOULD VISIT WITH CAKES IN OLD-SCHOOL TUPPERWARE. I LOVE THE SIMPLE DESIGN, MIMICKING THE SMOOTH PASTELS OF 1960’S TUPPERWARE. THE WORK EXEMPLIFIES THE TIMELESSNESS OF THAT PERIOD.”
